Application of Vinyl Lettering and Graphics

STEP 1

Ensure sign surface is free of dirt and oily substances, especially car polishes. The best way of doing this is to clean the surface down with soap and water and then wipe over with Prepsol or some other non greasy cleaning agent.

STEP 2

DRY APPLICATION

Before peeling off paper backing sheet. Place decal in required position on substrate and lightly draw a line from the decal sheet onto the substrate using a water soluble pencil. This is for positioning when the backing sheet is removed.

STEP 3

Remove paper backing sheet which exposes the sticky side and gently bring decal into position lining up marks. Do not make contact with the substrate until happy with position. Lightly touch down when in position. DO NOT rub decal with hands, this will only create air bubbles. Using your squeegee (or some hard slightly flexible rubber) work from the centre of the decal out to the edges in continuous vertical strokes. Squeegee only one half of the decal at a time.

STEP 4

Peel back the transfer tape from the face of the decal at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Leaving the decal in the desired position. Clean off marks with water.

WET APPLICATION

The decals can be applied either wet or dry. This may be useful if applying 2 or more colours, or if the decal is too large to apply dry. Wet application is the easiest method but you may need up to a full day for the decal to dry before removing the transfer tape. After the substrate is cleaned and dried, spray a mixture of water and unscented dishwashing liquid onto the substrate and follow the above instructions Mixture ratio is approximately one capful of detergent to one bucket of water. When mixing, feel water between fingertips to gauge consistency. Too slippery and your decal will take ages to dry. Not slippery enough and your decal will not be able to slide around after positioning.
